Direct Action and Civil Disobedience
- Free Red Fawn - Donate! - Learn more about Red Fawn - Sign this petition
Red Fawn has become a political prisoner of Standing Rock. We are demanding her immediate release.
Who is Red Fawn? Red Fawn is a human rights advocate, organizer and a community leader within the Oglala Lakota Sioux.
On Oct. 27th, the police raided the 1851 Treaty Camp. More than 140 people were arrested that day. Bail was raised from $200 to $1,500 for each. All have been released except, Red Fawn. Her bail is set for $110k. That day, Red Fawn was serving as a trained medic. She was helping injured water protectors who had been sprayed with mace and hit by rubber bullets. As Red Fawn retreated from the front lines, three officers targeted, tackled and threw her to the ground. Police reports allege that one of the officers pulled his weapon and placed it against her back and that while she was pinned to the ground, shots were fired.
Red Fawn is being accused of firing a weapon. Eyewitness accounts and video show otherwise.
“Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier said he couldn't confirm any shots were fired by the water protectors on Oct. 27” (Democracy Now) Red Fawn has been behind bars since that day. She is facing up to 20 years in prison.
That's why we need your support, to build up her legal defense fund. On Fridays, in a show of unity and support, we ask all water protectors to wear red in solidarity for Red Fawn until she is free.

- A Civilian's Guide to DIRECT ACTION - What It Is, What It's Good For, How It Works
Direct action has a rich heritage here in North America, extending back to the Boston Tea Party and beyond. Despite this, there are many misunderstandings about it, in part due to the ways it has been misrepresented in the corporate media.
Direct action is how most major social change has been accomplished in the past. Direct action works. In the age of a Trump presidency, direct action may be the only means we have to stop Trump. All you have to do to see what Trump is all about is to look at who he has appointed to his Cabinet. Inform yourself about how direct action works by reading the linked guide to direct action.
Direct action is what they are using to block the Dakota Access Pipeline. If it was not for the brave actions of those individuals involved in direct action, oil would be flowing though the pipeline by now!
- Tim DeChristopher: The Power of Civil Disobedience
In Seattle in support of the historic trial of the Delta 5, Tim DeChristopher gave this extraordinary speech the day after, summarizing the week's events and expounding on the meaning and moral implications of civil disobedience. The Pacific Northwest is fast becoming a corridor for fossil fuel development against the will of the vast majority of the population and most of their leaders. In September 2014, five citizens placed themselves in the way of that system by blocking a train carrying highly volatile crude oil from the Bakken shale, declaring it necessary to avert climate catastrophe.
What made the trial historic is that the judge allowed the defendants to use the Necessity Defense - rarely allowed in civil disobedience cases, arguing and presenting evidence that they had no choice but to break the law. The Jury found them guilty of trespassing but not guilty of blocking the train, raising questions about jury nullification, which DeChristopher also thoroughly addressed in this talk.
Tim DeChristopher became world famous December 19, 2008, when he disrupted an illegitimate BLM Oil and Gas lease auction in Utah near Canyonlands and Arches National Parks which the outgoing Bush administration had tried to slide under the radar. The auction was invalidated two months later but DeChristopher served 21 months in prison. Bidder 70, the movie about this action, won 20 international film awards. After his release, Tim entered Harvard University Divinity School to become a Unitarian Universalist minister.
- Climate Disobedience Center
For 30 years environmentalists have attempted to change the United State's and world's trajectory on fossil fuel emissions through incremental reform efforts. Drawing on conventional wisdom, environmental advocates believed their efforts would lead to sufficient incremental change to avert disaster. Those efforts have failed, and in the ensuing decades the magnitude and urgency of the crisis has escalated dramatically. Drawing on current science, we recognize that what is needed is a massive, decisive end to the fossil fuel era to avert the worst cascading effects of the climate crisis.
We must move from linear change to an exponential change model. Civil disobedience is the single most effective tool for cracking the consensual climate hallucination, in the same way that the lunch counter sit-ins of the early 60's helped shatter the illusion of incremental racial progress of the post-WWII years.
The purpose of the Climate Disobedience Center is to serve as a catalyst for direct action, creating points of vivid moral clarity, emboldening both climate activists and the unlikeliest of allies, capturing the heart and soul of the climate debate.
The Climate Disobedience Center brings together an experienced team to provide logistical, legal and spiritual resources, on the ground assistance, and advice to climate activists engaged in civil disobedience across the country. The Center will deploy those assets to nurture strong, grounded communities of resistance willing to take risks of moral imagination, and is committed to supporting those who hold allegiance to a higher moral law through the legal process and consequences of action.
- Standing rock resistance
On a special edition of On Contact, Chris Hedges travels to the Standing Rock encampment in North Dakota to listen to the frontline voices of those fighting to block the Dakota Access Pipeline. It's a fact that pipelines leak. See these detailed maps that show all of the leaks over the past 30 years.
- #NoDAPL Solidarity
This site is dedicated to supporting the frontline, indigenous led resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline. We hope that this site will make it easier for allies from around the world to take action against the institutions that are attempting to construct the pipeline.
They have sent out a call for your help and support!
Our planet is nearing a tipping point where there is no turning back from catastrophic climate change that will cause the extinction of most life on this planet and it's already happening. Humanity will not survive if we let these new massive pipelines go into operation. We need to keep the gas and oil in the ground.
- Sacred Stone Camp - Iŋyaŋ Wakháŋagapi Othí
Stop the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Hau we are the Inyan wakankagapi otip-Sacred Stone Camp from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. We have partnership with the Oectc Sakowin- Seven Council Fires, Indians and Cowboys and anyone who was to stand with us against the Dakota Access Pipeline. This pipeline will cross the Missouri River and Cannon Ball River which is the life line to many tribes and non native, when this pipeline leaks it will destroy the water and land. Water is life ! So this pipeline is along the Missouri River and the KL pipeline was along the Ogall aquifer both are important to save.
We are asking for financial support for water-propane - food and blankets for the camp. This is a prayer camp movement to save our sacred land and water and has been entirely supported by the people and the campers. We are in great appreciation for all you contributions....Wopila lila tanka-- we are deeply grateful for you contributions thank you!
- Act Now, Cry Later: Tim DeChristopher, Aria Doe & Josh Fox on Civil Disobedience & Climate Activism
Two activists featured in Josh Fox's new documentary, How to Let Go of the World and Love All the Things Climate Can't Change, join us to discuss the role of direct action in fighting global warming. Aria Doe is co-founder and executive director of the Action Center for Education and Community Development in Far Rockaway, Queens, in New York City, and Tim DeChristopher founded the Climate Disobedience Center after spending 21 months in federal custody for posing as a bidder in 2008 to prevent oil and gas drilling on thousands of acres of public land in his home state of Utah. We also speak with Fox about his plans to take the film on the road and distribute it for free as a tool in the climate justice movement.

- ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism)
Founded just three days after the September 11, 2001 attacks, ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) initiated the massive U.S. antiwar movement opposing the U.S. invasion of Iraq in the months prior to March 19, 2003.
ANSWER has mobilized against the illegal coup and UN occupation of Haiti, against the illegal blockade of Cuba, and the illegal 'regime change' war on Libya.
We are actively fighting against the ongoing occupation of Afghanistan, the renewed assaults on Iraq and Syria, the drone attacks on Yemen, Pakistan and Somalia, among others.
The ANSWER Coalition demonstration of 200,000 people on October 26, 2002, in Washington, D.C. ignited a nationwide and global antiwar movement that was nearly unprecedented in history. On January 18, 2003, 500,000 people packed the Mall in Washington, D.C. under the slogan "Stop the War Before It Starts." The Washington Post described the January 18 demonstration as the largest antiwar protest since the end of the Vietnam War.

Computer Security
(NOTE: These links are in bold for a reason. You should read them for your own protection.)
These are some of the most important activist resources on this page. Every activist should be especially concerned about computer security. These links will help keep you informed. While you are surfing the Internet, the Government and corporations will be spying on your phone, invading your privacy and spying on your computer usage. Inform yourself about their tactics and implement strategies to protect your privacy.
Keeping your computer's and device's software updated to the most current version will help protect yourself from attackers who try to penetrate your devices from the Internet. You absolutely would not believe the amount of attacks that occur each day right here against our own server. The server logs are totally filled with people trying to break in using any means possible! So, if you don't want them in your own computers and networks, be vigilant with security patches and updates!
- Wikileaks - Vault 7: CIA Hacking Tools Revealed - Archived copy
It is important to know the ways in which an attacker can invade your privacy. The CIA document dump Wikileaks released documents many ways that any atacker could use to surreptitiously invade your computing device. This press release is a bit long but well worth reading in its entirety. It talks about a lot of different ways attackers use to gain unauthorized access to a computing device. The more you know about these tactics you are more able to protect your own privacy while using the Internet and also during general computer usage.
- Securing Your Web Browser

- Surveillance Self-Defense - Tips, Tools and How-to's for Safer Online Communications
Modern technology has given those in power new abilities to eavesdrop and collect data on innocent people. Surveillance Self-Defense is EFF's guide to defending yourself and your friends from surveillance by using secure technology and developing careful practices.
- Encryption Works: How to Protect Your Privacy in the Age of NSA Surveillance
How-to guides and resources for protecting your privacy in the age of mass surveillance.
At Freedom of the Press Foundation, it is our mission to protect the privacy and security of 21st century journalists.
We deliver digital security trainings to news organizations, freelance and citizen journalists, and other at-risk groups. With education and advocacy, we aim to protect press freedoms through the adoption of the tools and practices included in our trainings.
The NSA is the biggest, best funded spy agency the world has ever seen. They spend billions upon billions of dollars each year doing everything they can to vacuum up the digital communications of most humans on this planet that have access to the Internet and the phone network. And as the reports in the Guardian and Washington Post show, even domestic American communications are not safe from their net.
Defending yourself against the NSA, or any other government intelligence agency, is not simple, and it's not something that can be solved just by downloading an app. But thanks to the dedicated work of civilian cryptographers and the free and open source software community, it's still possible to have privacy on the Internet, and the software to do it is freely available to everyone. This is especially important for journalists communicating with sources online.
- Ed Snowden Taught Me To Smuggle Secrets Past Incredible Danger. Now I Teach You.
"Micah," the email read, "I'm a friend. I need to get information securely to Laura Poitras."
Late on the evening of January 11, 2013, someone sent me an interesting email. It was encrypted, and sent from the sort of anonymous email service that smart people use when they want to hide their identity. Sitting at the kitchen table in the small cottage where I lived in Berkeley with my wife and two cats, I decrypted it.
- DuckDuckGo - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Take back your privacy! Switch to the search engine that doesn't track you. What you search for is your own business and we'd like to keep it that way. That's why we don't collect any personal information and therefore, have none to share.
Get tips to reduce your footprint even more. Sign up for our privacy tips at the bottom of this page.
Example privacy tip:
Unless you use a private search engine, like DuckDuckGo, then your search engine still likely has a copy of everything you've ever searched. Let's take Google for example. Check out your Google Search History. Searches, locations, interests. They've recorded it all. Put simply, Google isn't a search company, they're an advertising company. Deleting your Google search history will prevent it from being used by the highest bidder on the millions of sites and apps that use Google's advertising networks. To delete the results you can click on the dots on the top-right hand of the page and select "Delete Activity By.." then, select "All Time" and hit delete. At DuckDuckGo, we believe in privacy by default. In fact, we protect your search history from everyone -- even us!
- Privacy Badger - EFF.org
Highly recommended! EFF launched Privacy Badger, a browser extension that discovers and blocks creepy third party trackers that record your online browsing. Privacy Badger stops advertisers and other third-party trackers from secretly tracking where you go and what pages you look at on the web. If an advertiser seems to be tracking you across multiple web sites without your permission, Privacy Badger automatically blocks that advertiser from loading any more content in your browser. To the advertiser, it's like you suddenly disappeared.
- HTTPS Everywhere - EFF.org
Highly recommended! HTTPS Everywhere is a Firefox, Chrome, and Opera extension that encrypts your communications with many major web sites, making your browsing more secure. Encrypt the web: Install HTTPS Everywhere today. HTTPS Everywhere is produced as a collaboration between The Tor Project and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Many sites on the web offer some limited support for encryption over HTTPS, but make it difficult to use. For instance, they may default to unencrypted HTTP, or fill encrypted pages with links that go back to the unencrypted site. The HTTPS Everywhere extension fixes these problems by using clever technology to rewrite requests to these sites to HTTPS.

- Electronic Frontier Foundation - EFF.org
EFF is the leading civil liberties group defending your rights in the digital world. There is an amazing amount of computer security information here. It is a constant struggle. Show them some love and make a donation. After all, they are fighting for your online rights. The DEEPLINKS Blog is especially interesting.

- Communication Security Riseup.net
Why security matters: The increasing importance of information and communication has brought with it another phenomenon: the rise of a surveillance society. You can think of surveillance as an attempt by the powerful to maintain their dominance by asserting control over communication. Nation states have responded to new communications technology by pursuing an infrastructure that can easily be re-purposed for total social control.

- Tor, the Onion Router - torproject.org
Like a VPN, but your traffic is bounced around the Internet to many nodes to make it much more anonymous. A free software implementation of second-generation onion routing, a system enabling its users to communicate anonymously on the Internet. Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. It also enables software developers to create new communication tools with built-in privacy features. Tor provides the foundation for a range of applications that allow organizations and individuals to share information over public networks without compromising their privacy. Using Tor protects you against a common form of Internet surveillance known as "traffic analysis." Traffic analysis can be used to infer who is talking to whom over a public network. Knowing the source and destination of your Internet traffic allows others to track your behavior and interests. This can impact your checkbook if, for example, an e-commerce site uses price discrimination based on your country or institution of origin. It can even threaten your job and physical safety by revealing who and where you are. For example, if you're traveling abroad and you connect to your employer's computers to check or send mail, you can inadvertently reveal your national origin and professional affiliation to anyone observing the network, even if the connection is encrypted.

The Free Gaza movement is a human rights group that, since August 2008, has traveled nine times to Gaza by sea to break Israel's illegal stranglehold on 1.5 million Palestinian civilians. The Free Gaza movement and its coalition partners, the European Campaign to End the Siege on Gaza; IHH -- the Turkish Foundation for Human Rights, Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief; the International Committee to End the Siege on Gaza; Ship to Gaza Sweden and Ship to Gaza Greece are the only organizations that have sent boats directly to Gaza in defiance of Israel's criminal closure of the Gaza Strip. - Radio Havana Cuba
This is live radio from Havana, Cuba. If you do not have a radio that can tune shortwave frequencies, then you have to use an online shortwave receiver to listen to these stations. You can use receivers at SDR.hu or at GlobalTuners (GlobalTuners demo). Try to find a receiver that is somewhat near to the broadcast location as listed in the frequency guide. Depending on the antenna, the receiver can be thousands of miles away from the broadcast location and still work fine. 6000 KHz seems to come in fairly well on receivers located in North America.
Here's a brief explanation of how to use the SDR.hu receivers. Click on a receiver from the list. When you open up the receiver page, there will be a box in the lower right hand side of the screen. You will see a number in the top left portion of this box. This is where you enter the frequency you wish to tune. Consult the linked Radio Havana Cuba frequency list for frequencies in the language sections and enter one of them into the box on the receiver screen. You may have to try several different receivers and frequencies to get a good signal. If you close a receivers web page, you might not be able to reopen that receivers page for a few minutes. Some receivers at SDR.hu seem to have a timeout after about 20 minutes.
- Free Radio Santa Cruz
Free Radio Santa Cruz has been on the air for over twelve years without a license. We broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, in defiance of federal regulations. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is charged with regulating the airwaves in the public interest. We believe that it has failed to do so and has proved itself to be controlled by monied interests. We go on the air to protest corporate control of the airwaves, to bring local control and local accountability to our community media, to produce and broadcast a diversity of programs that are simply unavailable on corporate controlled stations. We do not air advertisements, we do not do pledge drives, we do not have sponsors or underwriters. Plays with VLC, etc.

- KPFK 90.7 FM Los Angeles - Pacifica Radio
Pacifica Radio for Southern California
Pacifica Foundation Radio (Pacifica) was born in the late 1940's out of the (now nearly forgotten) peace movement surrounding World War Two. Lewis Hill, a conscientious objector and Washington, D.C. newsman, was fired from his mainstream reporting job when he refused to misrepresent the facts.
This was a time when the idea of a listener-sponsored radio station was a new one which had never been implemented. Many people doubted the viability of a broadcast model which didn't rely on some kind of corporate or government funding. But the idea was too compelling for Hill and others who agreed with him. Pacifica was born and in 1949 KPFA went on the air from Berkeley, California.
KPFK, in Los Angeles, was the second of what would eventually become five Pacifica Stations to go on the air. It was 1959 and Terry Drinkwater was the first General Manager. Blessed with an enormous transmitter in a prime location, KPFK is the most powerful of the Pacifica stations and indeed is the most powerful public radio station in the Western United States.

- Deeds Not Words
Life is hard. We get that. And it can be tough to figure out how to use your precious few spare moments of time plugging in and making a difference. That's why Deeds Not Words is here -- to make your activism a little bit easier.
For example, just a few days ago here in Texas, the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services took up three separate abortion-restricting bills. Each of these bills, in their own way, are far-reaching, extreme attacks on women's liberty and our access to safe and legal abortion.
Deeds Not Words was there to do our part. Not only did we testify, not only did we call, email and write our representatives, but we also showed you how easy it is for you to do so, too! Watch our video.
This is what we're all about. And not just in Texas! Across the country, Deeds Not Words is empowering women and training activists to take a stand and make our voices heard. We're hard at work, in fact, training the next generation of activists to take on the issues of sex-trafficking and campus sexual assault.
- Life and Liberty for Women
Life and Liberty for Women is a new 501C nonprofit organization dedicated to aggressive abortion rights education. Life and Liberty for Women Proudly affirms that Roe vs. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in this country, correctly and morally balanced the right to life and liberty of woman and fetus. Life and Liberty for Women believes that potential life is entitled to quality of life and it's never wrong or immoral for a woman to conclude that she can't provide that for her child or that she cannot give up her child for adoption.

- Standing Rock Sioux Tribe
As you probably already know, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is fighting the Dakota Access Pipeline which threatens their source of clean drinking water. If completed, the $3.8 billion pipeline would carry about 500,000 barrels of crude per day from North Dakota's Bakken oilfield to Illinois. The project has faced months of resistance from the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and members of nearly 100 more tribes from across the U.S. and Canada.

- "Big Mountain" - Black Mesa Indigenous Support!
Black Mesa Indigenous Support (BMIS) is a currently non-Native all volunteer, grassroots collective committed to working with the resistance communities of Black Mesa/Big Mountain.
The nature of colonialism is to invisibilize its modes of operating, creating the dominant narrative that Indigenous peoples are disappearing. In the case of Black Mesa there's a perception that the relocation is done. It's not. As a collective, in an effort to reveal the presence of settler colonialism and its connection to climate destabilization, we center the voices of those resisting relocation and cultural genocide. This offers up visions for a future built on respect for life, land, and, as matriarch resister Roberta Blackgoat said, "ancient Indigenous people's religion and culture".
As a collective, we prioritize direct-on-land support in order to be grounded in the daily realities of land based struggles, and to deepen relationships with members of the resistance community that form the foundation of our solidarity work. We strive for a decolonization that includes an abdication of power over Native lands by the U.S. government and corporations and a practice of solidarity which takes responsibility for our role as beneficiaries of ongoing settler colonialism in order to dismantle settler privilege.
- Black Mesa Water Coalition
Black Mesa Water Coalition is dedicated to preserving and protecting Mother Earth and the integrity of Indigenous Peoples' cultures, with the vision of building sustainable and healthy communities. BMWC strives to empower young people while building sustainable communities.

We believe a sustainable world is predicated on transforming economic, social, and political relationships that have been based on systems of conquest toward systems based on just relationships with each other and with the natural world. As our mission states, we are committed to restoring a paradigm that recognizes our collective humanity and our joint dependence on the Earth.

We work to build a service-member and veteran led movement that ends militarism by transforming ourselves, military culture and American society.
We strive for a world free of unjust war -- a world without the political and economic conditions allowing militarism to exist, and without structural forces pushing our youth, our poor and those facing incarceration into the military; We strive for a society that prioritizes care for its warriors -- where all who serve receive adequate benefits and the highest standard of compassionate care regardless of discharge status; We strive for a society that holds political leaders, profiteers, and war criminals accountable for the consequences of their actions; We strive for a political and military culture that embraces full human rights for service-members, veterans and all people; We strive for a political culture that prioritizes nonviolence, open communication, and democratic decision-making over militarism -- a culture committed to building peace and preserving life, solving international conflicts through diplomacy and alternative conflict resolution; We strive for a political culture that acknowledges our nation's moral responsibilities to the people of Afghanistan, Iraq, and all civilians adversely affected by U.S. military intervention. The United States must fully accept guidance from these affected peoples and provide support they find valuable; Finally, we endeavor for our movement to be an ally to the oppressed -- a community connected in solidarity with war torn peoples, working across differences for reconciliation, mutual healing and collective liberation.
- Grassroots Global Justice (GGJ)

GGJ focuses on bringing GRO organizations into a long-term process of relationship building, political alignment and the development of transformational leadership, particularly for working and poor women and gender-oppressed people of color. The membership of GGJ adopted a framework in 2011 that calls for a holistic approach to building grassroots global justice: No War, No Warming, Build an Economy for the People and the Planet, echoing the framework of Dr. Martin Luther King's philosophy of the Triple Evils of Poverty, Racism and Militarism. We weave and bridge together US-based GRO groups and global social movements working for climate justice, an end to war, and a just transition to a new economy that is better for people and the planet.
- On a Move - Website of the MOVE Organization
The MOVE Organization is a family of strong, serious, deeply committed revolutionaries founded by a wise, perceptive, strategically minded Black man named JOHN AFRICA. The principle of our belief is explained in a collection of writings we call "The Guidelines," authored by JOHN AFRICA. To honor our beloved Founder, and acknowledge the wisdom and strength He has given us, we say "LONG LIVE JOHN AFRICA!"
MOVE's work is revolution. JOHN AFRICA's revolution, a revolution to stop man's system from imposing on life, to stop industry from poisoning the air, water, and soil and to put an end to the enslavement of all life. Our work is to show people how rotten and enslaving this system is and that the system is the cause of homelessness, unemployment, drug addiction, alcoholism, racism, domestic abuse, AIDS, crime, war, all the problems of the world. We are working to demonstrate that people not only can fight this system, they must fight the system if they ever want to free themselves from endless suffering and oppression.
On May 13, 1985, one of the most shameful, horrific attacks ever by U.S. police took place in West Philadelphia. 11 people -- including five children -- were killed in a deliberate massacre. The Counted is a project by the Guardian – and you – working to count the number of people killed by police and other law enforcement agencies in the United States throughout 2015 and 2016, to monitor their demographics and to tell the stories of how they died.

The Counted is the most thorough public accounting for deadly use of force in the US, but it will operate as an imperfect work in progress - and will be updated by Guardian reporters and interactive journalists as frequently and as promptly as possible.

Black Lives Matter is a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes.

Since its founding, it has grown into a nationally prominent publisher of educational materials, with subscribers in all 50 states, all 10 Canadian provinces, and many other countries.
- WE ARE NOT YOUR SOLDIERS!
There is an epidemic sweeping through American high schools. Youth sign up for the military by the 1000’s, feeling some sort of obligation to serve their country. 9/11 often serves as a means and justification for this feeling. We don’t have any obligation to fight in wars that began when we could barely grasp the meaning of such an act using tactics so monstrous that millions of innocent people have died. The only obligation we have is to the future of humanity. As bombs rain down on civilian populations, children are literally tortured, and Nuremberg standards identify war crimes every single day: we cannot be silent. No matter how much they try to convince us these wars belong to us, we can’t cave in. The only war we should be fighting is one against the militarization of our generation. We should fight to keep the recruiters out of our schools and neighborhoods, away from our friends and family, and most importantly entirely out of new recruits. This fight can begin right now. You can initiate it.

- CrimethInc. Ex-Workers' Collective
History is not something that happens to people - it is the activity of people. In every moment, in every decision and gesture, we make our culture, our life stories, our world, whether we take responsibility for this ourselves or ascribe this power to executives, politicians, pop stars, economic systems, or deities.
In a society which glorifies their power and our passivity, all thought which challenges this passivity is thoughtcrime. Crimethink is the transgression without which freedom and self-determination are impossible - it is the skeleton key that unlocks the prisons of our age.

- The Really Really Free Market - on Wikipedia
You have some stuff you don't need, everyone does. Share your extra items with your local community. It can be anything that you think someone else would want. In return, maybe you will find something that you need? That, however, is just scratching the surface. Really, Really Free Market can be whatever you make it. Because there is enough for everyone; Because sharing is more fulfilling than owning; Because corporations would rather see landfills overflow than anyone get anything for free; Because scarcity is a myth constructed to keep us at the mercy of the economy; Because a sunny day outside is better than anything money can buy; Because "free trade" is a contradiction of terms; Because no one should have to do without food, shelter, entertainment, and community; Because life should be a picnic, but it only will be if we make it happen.

- Collective Autonomy Network
(Note: This site is only available on Archive.org)
There is a movement sprouting up all around of people creating innovative ways to take care of their own needs. The Collective Autonomy Network (CAN) intends to help this movement grow by creating communal resources to help these ways be easily replicated. These communal resources include a real-world and online network, community resource maps, and seed packets that explain how to replicate these ideas in your own community.- ReUseIt Network (RIN)
The ReUseIt Network is an on-line forum that serves as a tool to make connections between community members who want to help each other, themselves, and their environment. In a disposable society where many items are discarded long before they have actually outlived their use, The ReUseIt Network helps get things from people who have them but don't want them to people who want them but don't have them. Our goal is to find new uses for unwanted items that would otherwise be thrown into the trash. The primary benefit is that it reduces the amount of reusable items that end up in the trash with a secondary benefit of reducing the overall amount of items thrown into landfills. Reusing items not only cuts down on goods in landfills, but also helps reduce the strain on our natural resources by keeping usable items in circulation, reducing the need to manufacture additional goods. The ReUseIt Network also provides an opportunity for those looking for an item to ask for it. Requests for items may jog the memory of someone who has an unused item stashed in the garage or basement waiting to be used. It is a great way to help get rid of those things which we may have forgotten, giving every member the chance to ReUseIt! All transactions must be free, legal, and family-friendly.
- Free Farm Stand
The Free Farm Stand, an all-volunteer run project of the No Penny Opera (a tax exempt organization) is about sharing the wealth of urban farms and gardens. What we do: We grow as much food as can in San Francisco and distribute it for free at our Free Farm Stand. We act as a gathering place in the Mission to encourage community growth and involvement. This effort revolves mostly around gathering surplus food from neighborhood gardens, various farmer's markets, community gardens, public and private fruit trees, and hosting a space where this bounty can be shared with all. We also work with Produce to the People who harvests organic fruit from backyard fruit trees and public spaces and brings it to our Free Farm Stand.
